Ever since receiving the news of the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, on October 13, 2016, mourners have been steadily streaming in from every direction, paying their respects every day, with few exceptions. As October 26, the cremation day, quickly approaches, the Thai government proclaimed the last day mourners could pay respects in the Dusit Throne Hall would be September 30th. Predictably, there was a great flood of mourners causing the government to extend the visitation until October 5th. Now, mourners must be satisfied with prostrating outside of the palace wall, bowing in the direction of the throne hall, where the late king lies in state.
Today, 15 October, 2017, the second rehearsal of the funeral procession took place, with spectators assembling before dawn to watch this rare event. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and Sirivannavari Nariratana also participated in the rehearsal. The last rehearsal will take place on October 21, 2017.
